Christian NHL All-Star Team

This weekend, hockey fans will turn their eyes to Columbus, Ohio for the 2015 All-Star festivities. The NHL’s most talented players will come together for a fun weekend that lets fans see a different side to some of their favorite players.

As I looked over the All-Star selections, I noticed that no professed Christians had been named to the roster. A Canadian hockey hero once said hockey is the sport least influenced by Christianity, but there still are some great Christian players in the NHL for us to all watch. Some have made it to the All-Star game in the past, and you can be sure we’ll see some there next season.

In light of all of this, I decided to make a Christian All-Star team!

There’s a quick look at some of the top Christians I’m aware of in hockey.

For Christians, it should never be about accolades and recognition from others. 1 Timothy 6:7 says; “For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can't carry anything out.”

That’s just a humble reminder that everything we do should be for Christ’s glory. There’s nothing wrong with making an All-Star team, and there’s nothing wrong with working hard and leading your team into the playoffs or to a championship, but we need to make sure results and recognition from others is not our focus.

I know this is a hockey blog, but Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks was a great example of this when he led his team back against the Green Bay Packers last weekend in thrilling fashion. The comments from some of his teammates show how highly they think of him and how well he conducted himself in the midst of struggles. It was a tough start for Russell, but at the end of the day, he made some big plays, and gave God the glory.

Let's finish with 1 Corinthians 10:31

“Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
